ART
WORKSHOPS AT THE TUDOR LODGE

The
first oil and watercolour workshops held by Bob Reeves at the Tudor lodge
took place in august and were very well attended. These were aimed primarily
at his own students from around Pembrokeshire and were designed to complement
his classroom instruction by concentrating on sketching and picture composition
the open air. Seascapes were the subject matter for 2006 and Lydstep Headland
was selected as the most appropriate and beautiful site.
After
an introductory talk by Bob, the participants were driven to this lovely
area chosen for its impressive coastline and wonderful view of Caldey
Island.
From the safety of the level, grassy headland, the participants were able
to sit down in comfort and attempt, with bob’s one-to-one tuition,
to sketch the cliffs and seashore.
Lydstep
forms part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and the limestone cliffs
are popular with climbers. Mainly around Lydstep Haven these have been
modified by a past, thriving quarrying industry resulting in a unique
seashore of fissures and buttresses. The whole area has also been naturally
eroded, creating fascinating arches, gorges and a host of caves. Some
are only accessible at low tide and smuggler’s cave can be accessed
by a huge blow-hole (called Draught).
The
participants then returned to the Tudor Lodge for a buffet lunch. The
afternoon was spent in relaxed and informal personal instruction from
Bob, with a break for a delicious cream tea.
As
a result of the enthusiastic response to these workshops, the Tudor Lodge
anticipates sufficient interest to warrant market research into further
one day and five-day workshops, with the latter aiming to attract artists
nationally, possibly concentrating on other subjects such as castle and
harbours.
An
added feature of the day was photographs taken over the participants’
shoulders of the view they were sketching to enable them to complete their
pictures on returning home.
These photos can be viewed in the gallery's on the left hand side of this
